Sad Day in Sports
Today is a very sad day in sports, especially here in San Diego where Junior Seau is a local legend. Seau grew up in the city of Oceanside just 20 minutes from me in northern San Diego county. He was drafted in 1990 out of USC and become a hometown favorite. When I received news of his suicide this morning I was pretty distraught. The Chargers are my team and there is no bigger icon in Chargers history than Junior Seau. He IS the Chargers. He IS San Diego.
Over the next few days I’m sure we’ll hear all sorts of news about the personal dark details of Junior’s life but I’ll prefer to remember him as he lived. By all accounts Junior was just a good guy, and someone that gave back to his community. Sadly, Junior’s family didn’t even see this coming as he texted his wife and kids yesterday telling them he loved them.
I could go on all day talking about one of my favorite players in NFL history but I’ll conclude by saying that we’ll miss you Junior.
