DON MOTHER FUCKIN’ DRAPER, that’s who!  If it seems like we’ve been waiting about 2 years (17 months to be precise) for the return of Mad Men, it’s because we have.  The show was conspicuously absent from last year’s lineup which was a network decision, though they were never planning to cancel the show.  Last night’s 2-hour premiere marked the beginning of the 5th season of the AMC hit which seemed to pick up about a year and a half after last season’s ending.

It was nice to see all the changes that had been made in that time frame though nothing drastic occurred within the period.  It worked really well for the show because there was just some things I didn’t need to follow step-by-step, Joan the Office Manager’s pregnancy for instance.  It was nice to pick up after her child was born and was already a couple months old.

I was nervous about last night’s premiere for several reasons, chief among those reasons is that Mad Men is one of the best shows on television.  I didn’t know how the long hiatus was going to affect the show, was it going to help it or hinder it?  I’m happy to say that the show picked up right where it left off and has not missed a beat.  It looks like this season is going to be just as well done as those previous.  There’s already drama starting to build which should play out in very interesting ways this season.  They did a great job of setting the table.

The great thing about Mad Men is the period in which it’s set, the 60′s.  Anyone with an office job is surely jealous watching Draper and crew sipping on Scotch throughout the day and smoking cigarettes by the carton all the while passing their secretaries around like collection baskets at church.  Mad Men does a great job of showing you what it was like to work on Madison Ave in the 60′s.  It was clearly a different world and I’m sure more than a few viewers wish we could go back to those ways.

If you haven’t been watching Mad Men, then you need to get on board.  Thankfully, Netflix comes through once again with every episode from seasons 1-4.  So if you’re not a fan yet, and frankly I have no idea why you wouldn’t be, it’s not too late.  Stream that shit on Netflix, and then enjoy season 5 with the rest of us.  If last night’s 2-hour premiere is any indication, this season is going to be fantastic.

What do you think?  Did you enjoy the premiere?  Are you excited about season 5?  As always tell us what you think in the motha fuckin’ comments yo.
